Why Minimal Incision Surgery (MIS)

Most traditional foot and ankle surgical procedures require large incisions, extensive dissection, and internal fixation to correct foot and ankle pathology. MIS is cosmetically pleasing as there are little to no scars due to the very small incisions (most often less than 1/4 of an inch). In fact, most of the wounds do not need sutures. There is typically less discomfort post-operatively due to the small amount of soft tissue that is disrupted compared to traditional surgery.

The instrumentation used is specially designed to allow for less soft tissue disruption. This unique surgery has been around for over 60 years and is proven effective without fixation. However, you will have to check with your state to see if some type of fixation is necessary for certain procedures.

Make sure to let us know if this is the case and we can give you some suggestions and direct you to one of our MIS surgeons that use some type of fixation.
